A small plane crashed near the island of Ketchikan in Alaska killing 5 passengers. Four people that were on the plane survived.

The names of the people aboard the aircraft are not immediately available, but it is known that 3 of the survivors were sent to a hospital on the mainland for treatment of burns.

According to a member of the rescue squad the plane crashed into a tree about 200 feet from the water at Traitors Cove. The cause of the crash is not known but there will be a full investigation. Megan Peters, a spokesperson for the Alaskan State Troopers, stated that when the plane crashed strong wings suddenly sprung up, but investigators are not sure if that is why the plane crashed.

Investigators will be looking at a multiple of possible causes, including weather at the time of the crash, the plane's flight and maintenance logs, and the pilot's ratings and medical records.
