A Ketchikan girl lost control of her car Tuesday morning on the North Tongass Highway, careening into oncoming traffic and being hit by a pickup truck carrying five people ages 15 to 23. All five of the pickup's passengers were injured in the wreck and taken to Ketchikan General Hospital.
According to the Anchorage Daily News:
Troopers said driving too fast for the road conditions and inexperience are believed to be contributing factors in the crash. There are no indications that drugs or alcohol were involved, they said.
The teenager who was killed was rushed to the hopital, but she was pronounced dead soon after her arrival. Authorities said she had been wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
